The First Session

Say aloud or think to yourself: "Are you here?"  Relax and allow the answer to come naturally.

You should hear an affrimative answer.  Note when I say "hear" a response that you will not hear an audible voice in the room, but rather a voice in your mind.

Continue to ask yes/no questions which are not personal in nature.
"Is it raining here today?"
"Is the lamp in this room turned on?"

Continue a line of simple questions which do not pertain to you personally. You may stop and prepare questions along the way. Spirit will not mind waiting, and is there all the time to guide you.
For the first day, simply get used to hearing yes or no responses.

The Next Session

Again, ask only yes/no questions.  By your second session you should be ready to ask the name of your main Spirit Guide, and ask questions of a somewhat more personal nature.  Do not be tempted to get too involved in this session.

Greet you Guide.

Ask, "Are you male?"  "Are you female?"

Say, "Please tell me your name."

If you have difficulty understanding the name, just come as close to what you hear as you can. Spirit will accept whatever name you give him or her.

Continue by asking more general yes/no questions.

The Next Session

By now you should feel comfortable enough with your Spirit Guide to ask him or her to introduce you to your other Guides.  Be prepared to take your time in meeting and getting to know your other Guides slowly before you ask them detailed questions.  You may prepare questions ahead of time to refer to during your session. Take your time, and do not rush the process of getting to know your Guides.

Greet your Guide.

Ask, "Do I have other Spirit Guides?"  Wait for an affirmative response.

Ask, "Do I have more than two Guides?"  Wait for a response.

Continue in this fashion until you have determined the number of Guides you have.
Make a note of this.
Ask, "Can you introduce them to me?"

Wait for an affirmative response, then ask "What is your name?"

Continue meeting your Spirit Guides in this fashion, asking simple yes/no questions.  It is best to keep questions simple and answerable with a yes/no response until you have established relationships with your Guides and are comfortable hearing their responses.

As you continue these sessions, you can move on to ask more complex questions of your Guides.  Ask each of your Guides what purpose they serve in your life.  Ask them for guidance about spiritual and life path matters.  You can explore whether your Guides have been with you in a previous life or lives, and what relationship they had to you in those lives.

Over time, you may find that certain Spirit Guides are no longer there when you seek them.  As I said before, some Spirit Guides are with us our entire lives, others for a short time to fulfill a specific purpose.  When a Guide is no longer there, you can take it as an indication that they have fulfilled their task in your lives.  (This is a good thing, as you have likely made great growth and progress in one way or another.)  Another Guide may soon take the place of the Guide that has left.  Feel free to consult with your "regular" Guides for affirmation that this new Guide is indeed your Spirit Guide, and not simply an errant lost soul who is lonely and wants someone to talk to!

Meeting Your Spirit Guides: Step By Step Guide
Meeting Your Spirit Guides

Contacting your Spirit Guides is a form of channeling.  Of course, Spirit channeling is not for everyone.  Do not begin the process of meeting your Spirit Guides if you are not ready to do so psychologically, emotionally and spiritually.  Your Spirit Guides are here to help you, and will not harm you, but your psychological state will impact your experiences.  If you should find that the guides you are connecting with are negative or bringing negative messages, stop channeling, and work to heal your mind and spirit of negative energy before beginning to channel again.  Contacting your Spirit Guides should always bring light and enlightenment.  Remember that at any time, you can always ask a Spirit Guide to leave, and they will comply.

To begin with, there are many methods to help you meet your Spirit Guides.  Some are quite simple, others are more complicated and ritualistic.  Consider your own personal tastes and psychological makeup when contacting your Guides; do what comes naturally and is most comfortable for you.  There are some basic guidelines which are universal, and which I share with you here.  But in the end, your Spirit Guides will be available and ready to speak with you no matter where you are, or how you choose to contact them.

For the first several days, I suggest asking your Spirit Guides only yes or no questions, to allow yourself the necessary time to get used to hearing their responses.  I would also recommend not asking your Guides the same question twice in one session, as Spirit Guides have personalities and senses of humor just as we do, and you might find that a repeated question will be followed with a misleading response.

Telepathic communication with Spirit is called clairaudience. These are the thoughts you receive when you make a connection.   They may be accompanied by physical sensations such as a pressure on top of your head (the opening of the crown chakra); or a sensation on the left side of the body or face (the right side of the brain - the intuitive side - opening.) You might experience a tingling or brushing sensation somewhere on your body as well; do not panic if this happens, it is your Guide's way of letting you know that he or she is there.  Make a note of the type of sensation you experience, and the area of your body where you felt it -- that Guide will always bring about the same sensation each time you communicate, and it is your way of positively identifying him/her.

To start, I would suggest that you have a pencil and paper handy.  Find a a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or distracted.  Lock the door and turn off the phones if necessary. Cleanse yourself and the room thoroughly by envisioning yourself and the room bathed in a white protective light.   If you are accustomed to burning protective incense, such as frankincense, myrrh or rosemary, you may do so.  If you wish to create a sacred or protective circle in which to communicate with your Guides, then do so.  It is not necessary, but a matter of choice.
Although you probably do not  know it right now, you already know your Spirit Guides. You chose them to help you before you were born, and they agreed to guide you through this lifetime.  All of us have Spirit Guides: the average number of Guides is 5, with a combination of male and female Guides.  Some Guides remain with you for your lifetime; others come and go depending on your needs.

A commonly asked question: what is the difference between an Angel and a Spirit Guide? In Judaeo-Christian doctrines, an Angel is a Divinely-created Spirit, created for the sole purpose of acting as a messenger for the Divine.  Spirit Guides are spirits who have lived many human lifetimes and act as life guides for people.
Spirit Guides are entities who help others on their Life Paths.  They are commonly known by many names: Spirit Guides, Guides, Angels, and Guardian Angels. They are souls, or spirits, that have lived many lifetimes and are very wise as a result.  (Spirit Guides are not the same thing as Animal Guides or Animal Totems. See my page on Animal Totems for more information about animal totem guides.)
