Common Gemstones and Their Properties |
Stones carry within them the power and vibrations of the Earth itself. As discussed in more detail in my page on The Aura, everything -- whether animal, mineral, or plant material -- emanates vibrations. As human beings, we emanate vibrations commonly known as the "aura." It is possible to see the aura emanating from a person's body, and ascertain if the body and spirit are in harmony -- when our bodies or spirits are malfunctioning, the aura will reflect these imbalances. Gemstones are an excellent aid to restoring harmony to Mind, Body, and Spirit. Each gemstone carries within it its own specific vibration, and each vibration is helpful in restoring particular spiritual/mental/physical functions. Most gemstones are multi-dimensional and will work with you for many purposes. They can be worn as jewelry, carried in pouches (otherwise known as Mojo or Charm bags), either alone or combined with herbs and oils, held and rolled in the hand to receive the power within, or placed in a special place in the home or car for protection. Purchasing and selecting gemstones can be a daunting task for a beginner, so I have listed a guideline below to make it somehwat easier. This list is not all inclusive, and there are many, many more to explore. Just remember that you don't have to break the bank and buy every stone out there. Start out slowly, and just choose one or two that immediately appeal to you, and see where it takes you from there. Once you've purchased your stones, it will be necessary for you to cleanse them prior to using them, to remove past associations and vibrations (unless you are purchasing stones contained in a pouch (or Mojo or Charm Bag), in which case this has already been done for you). A very simple method is to place the stones in a glass or plastic bowl with spring water (or boiled tap water that has been cooled) with a good dose of sea salt (you can substitute table salt if you can't get sea salt.) Swirl the stones around and let them sit undisturbed overnight. Rinse them off with more spring or boiled tap water to rinse off any remaining salt, and allow them to air dry. Periodically cleanse the stones in the same manner after you have used them heavily. Keep them in a special place when not in use. |
A common misconception about the use of gemstones is that it is a "new" concept somehow invented by the New Age movement. This couldn't be further from the truth. The power of gemstones, and even ordinary rocks (if there is such a thing as an "ordinary" rock), have been well known for thousands of years by diverse cultures spanning the globe. It is, however, due in part to the resurgance of the Earth Spirituality movement within the last twenty-five or thirty years that the public at large has become aware of utilizing gemstones in their lives. |
